* BENNO SCHOTZ RSA (ESTONIAN 1891 - 1984), JEWISH DANCER bronze sculpture on marble base, signed 26cm high Note: Sculptor and teacher who was essentially a modeller of portraits. Born in Arensburgh, Estonia, after coming to Britain Schotz initially studied engineering at the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, then decided to study art at the School of Art there. His first one-man show took place at Reid and Lefevre’s gallery in Glasgow in 1926, Lefevre giving him his first one-man show in London four years later. He was head of the sculpture and ceramic departments of the Glasgow School of Art from 1938. Schotz was elected RSA in 1937 and was appointed HM Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland. He exhibited widely, including the RA, RSA, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Owners of his work include the House of Commons, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow, the National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh, and Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv art galleries, in Israel. Wrote an autobiography, Bronze in my Blood, and lived in Glasgow, where Christie’s held a studio sale in 1997.

* DAVID REDPATH MICHIE OBE RSA RWA FRSA RGI (SCOTTISH 1928 - 2015) MAN ON DECKCHAIR oil on canvas, signed and dated '77 framed image size 105cm x 70cm, overall size 110cm x 75cm Note: David Michie was born at Saint-Raphaël in the south of France. His father, James Michie, was an architect and painter who had been an apprentice to Edwin Lutyens at the War Graves Commission, helping to lay out cemeteries in northern France after the First World War. His mother was the celebrated artist Anne Redpath OBE RSA. David’s early years were spent living in St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where his father was private architect to American tycoon Charles Thompson. Later, the vibrant colour schemes of the Côte d’Azur would infuse his work. In 1934, David returned to Scotland with his family and settled in the Scottish Borders where David attended school in Hawick. In 1946, he enrolled at the Edinburgh College of Art but his time there was interrupted in 1947 with the introduction of National Service. He completed his service in the Signal Corps, qualifying as an instructor with the Royal Artillery Signals in 1949 and returned to Edinburgh College of Art where he was taught by William Gillies RSA. In 1953 he received a travelling scholarship to Italy, accompanied by his friend, the painter John Houston. They toured the Renaissance sites of Tuscany, and stayed in the hilltop towns of Anticoli Corrado and Orvieto in Umbria. John Houston RSA and his wife Elizabeth Blackadder RSA were to remain life-long friends. Colour was central to David’s painting. Working in both oils and watercolour, David’s subjects ranged from nature, garden compositions and his observance of people going about their everyday activities. His work was regularly inspired by his travels to far-flung places such as Australia, the USA and across Europe and is very effectively seen in his RSA Diploma painting On the Ramblas (1976) which invokes a colourful and busy Barcelona street scene. David taught widely, lecturing at James Clarke’s School in Edinburgh and Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. He was a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Belgrade and the University of California. He returned to Edinburgh College of Art to teach painting during the 1960s and 1970s, and was Vice Principal there from 1974-77. Between 1982 and 1990 he was Head of the School of Drawing and Painting. In 2009, he received an Honorary Fellowship from the College “in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the life of the college and the education of its students”. David was a prominent member of the Royal Scottish Academy, a former President of the Society of Scottish Artists and a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Founding Fellow of the Institute of Contemporary Scotland. He served on a number of professional panels including those of the Scottish Arts Council and the Scottish Education Trust. Sixty-seven of his paintings are included in many significant public collections such as Aberdeen Art Gallery, Glasgow Museums, the National Galleries of Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Museums, The Fleming Collection and the Tate. David was elected an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1964 and Royal Scottish Academician in 1972. He was appointed OBE in 1997. Was a regular exhibitor in one-man shows at Mercury Gallery and later ones including The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh. Work held by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

* JAMES WATT RGI (SCOTTISH 1931 - 2022), FJORD oil on canvas, signed framed image size 20cm x 61cm, overall size 27.5cm x 67.5cm Note: James Watt was born in Port Glasgow in 1931 to Alexander Watt and his wife Isabella (nee Hooper). His entire family, including his grandfather, and everybody he knew, were in shipbuilding. He was always passionate about boats. He believed he was very lucky. "I was in the right place at the right time. I caught the tail-end of the Clydeside shipbuilding boom in the 1950s. Shipyards had full order-books and the river teemed with craft of every sort. So I always had a subject”. His paintings are in a formidable array of collections – including those of HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, The Princess Royal, The Arts Council, The Hunterian, Glasgow Museums, Paisley Museum & Art Gallery, IBM, Britoil, the Danish Embassy, Yarrow Shipbuilders, McKean Museum and Art Gallery, Clyde Shipping Co, the Royal Bank of Scotland and also the town council in the Faroes. Watt went to Glasgow School of Art for four years where he was taught by Ted Odling, Douglas Percy Bliss, and David Donaldson. In 1958 he was one of 13 founders of the Glasgow Group, an artists' co-operative which continues to this day. Irritated by the conformist, unadventurous policies of local exhibiting societies like the Royal Scottish Academy and the RGI, and at the dearth of commercial outlets in the city, they got together with other GSA students and graduates to exhibit at Glasgow’s then-beautiful McLellan Galleries. The Glasgow Group was the Transmission Gallery of its day. After two years National Service in the army, from 1955 to 1957 he became an art teacher, and a much-beloved one at that. He was noted for his kindness and good counsel, and one former student says of him: "I had pretty much zero talent but he sparked a lifelong love and interest in art." Another remembered “His was the fastest-moving Volvo down the school drive. He was some man." Later Watt became a member of the RGI and was elected a member of Society of Scottish Artists in 1965. In 1997 he received The Royal Bank of Scotland Award at the Glasgow Institute. He dedicated much of his life to recording the River Clyde and its industries, and his vast body of work forms a vital archive of the river. Greenock's McLean Museum and Art Gallery exhibition, The Lost Clyde: The Paintings of James Watt, was mounted to celebrate his 90th birthday. James was also the father of Alison Watt OBE FRSE RSA, one of Britain's best-known painters.

* ALASDAIR GRAY (SCOTTISH 1934 - 2019), FROM THE SOUL'S PROPER LONELINESS limited edition silkscreen print on paper, signed, dated 2007 and numbered 29/60 mounted, framed and under glass image size 59cm x 30cm, overall size 86cm x 67cm Note: Along with John Byrne, Alasdair Gray has been described as one of the great Polymaths of the Scottish modern arts movement. Prolific writer and artist since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 1957. He published novels, short stories, plays, poetry and translations, and wrote on politics and the history of Scottish and English literature. Gray trained in mural painting, and his Glasgow murals include those in the Hillhead subway station and in the Oran Mor, an arts and music venue at the head of Glasgow's iconic Byres Road. His paintings, drawings and prints are well-known and widely collected. Examples of his paintings, drawings and prints are currently housed in various public collections, including The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, The National Library of Scotland, The Hunterian Museum and The Arts Council of England collection. His art was celebrated in 2014-15 with a major retrospective exhibition at Glasgow's Kelvingrove and in 2014 the BBC aired a one hour documentary to honour the 80th year of this 'giant of Scottish arts'.

Although Surrealist in its foundation, his work remains rooted in the landscape where brilliant azure skies and bright patchwork fields are suffused with brushstrokes of pure liquid sunshine. Her work is typically colourful and lively and demonstrates a strong sense of observation. Method of Working- Lisa uses light, fast watercolour and acrylic inks which have good reproduction qualities and designer gouache. She paints on very heavy watercolour paper that doesn’t need stretching. She uses brushes, a sharpened end of paintbrush to scratch out detail, fingers, splatter bristle brush, and salt for colour dispersal. Working on one piece at a time, Lisa works from memory, sketches and photos. The initial idea is very loosely mapped out so that the painting can feel spontaneous, and not like painting by numbers. Lisa's work is exhibited widely including at many annual major public exhibitions and at private galleries around the UK.

* FRANK COLCLOUGH (SCOTTISH 1941 - 2023), LATE AFTERNOON - CRINAN oil on board, signed, titled verso framed and under glass image size 51cm x 61cm, overall size 72cm x 82cm Note : Frank Colclough was born in Wick, Caithness and lived in London before settling back in Scotland in 1975. He originally worked as a design draughtsman while studying art at Camberwell Art School and worked as a professional artist since 1981. All Frank Colclough early contemporary paintings were in watercolour, but over recent years he worked in acrylic and oils. The inspiration for Frank Colclough paintings stems from his admiration of the Scottish colourist movement. This is reflected in his paintings which consist mainly of marine views of the Scottish West Coast and colourful still life studies. Frank Colclough contemporary paintings appear in many private and public art collections. The RSW, RGI and RSA have also regularly exhibited his work. Frank was a frequent, popular and very successful contributor to The Scottish Contemporary Art Auctions from 2008 for many years.

* JOHN BYRNE RSA (SCOTTISH 1940 - 2023), SELF PORTRAIT IN GOLD TINTED GLASSES offset lithograph on paper framed and under glass image size 36cm x 24cm, overall size 52cm x 39cm Note: John Byrne studied at both Edinburgh and Glasgow Schools of Art in the late 50s and early 60s. A superb painter and draughtsman, the multi-talented Byrne was also a first-class playwright (‘The Slab Boys’, ‘Tutti Frutti’), his ear for dialogue was as acute (and witty) as his eye for detail. Much of his subject matter in both disciplines is overtly autobiographical, he often included or refers to the Teddy Boy/Rock and Roll era of his youth. Byrne designed record covers for Donovan, The Beatles, Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly. His work is held in major collections in Scotland and abroad. Several of his paintings hang in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, the Museum of Modern Art and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. At the time of writing, The Fine Art Society, Edinburgh is staging "John Byrne: In The Studio" (until 23rd December).

* VICTOR PASMORE (1908 - 1998), THE EARTH FROM SPACE limited edition screenprint on paper, signed, dated '79 and numbered 54/70 framed and under glass image size 54cm x 101cm, overall size 81cm x 122cm Provenance: certificate of authenticity from is included with this lot. Note: British painter, printmaker, and maker of constructions who is unusual in having achieved eminence as both a figurative and an abstract artist. After early experiments with abstraction he reverted to naturalistic painting, and in 1937 he combined with William Coldstream and Claude Rogers in forming the Euston Road School. Characteristic of his work at this time and in the early 1940s are some splendid female nudes and lyrically sensitive Thames-side landscapes that have been likened to those of Whistler (Chiswick Reach, 1943, NG, Ottawa). In the late 1940s he underwent a dramatic conversion to pure abstract art, and by the early 1950s he had developed a personal style of geometrical abstraction. As well as paintings he made abstract reliefs, partly under the influence of Ben Nicholson. His earlier reliefs had a hand-made quality but later, in using transparent perspex, he gave them the impersonal precision and finish of machine products. Through work in this vein he came to be regarded as one of the leaders of Constructivism in Britain. Later paintings are less austere and more organic. Pasmore was an influential teacher, notably at King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne (now Newcastle University), where he was head of the painting department, 1954–61. The ‘basic design’ course he taught there (based on Bauhaus ideas) spread to many British art schools. He was also much concerned with bringing abstract art to the general public, notably as consulting director of urban design (1955–77) for the south-west area of Peterlee New Town, County Durham. His most personal contribution there is the Apollo Pavilion (1963–70), which he described as ‘an architecture and sculpture of purely abstract form’. In his later career Pasmore was also a prolific printmaker. He won many honours and Kenneth Clark described him as ‘one of the two or three most talented English painters of this century’.

Note: English painter, printmaker, draughtsman, designer, and writer. He reluctantly became an articled clerk in his father's legal firm, but took up the study of art after his father's death in 1926, first at the Richmond School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art. From 1928 to 1933 he wrote as an art critic for the Listener and the Nation and was among the first to recognize such contemporaries as William Coldstream, Ivon Hitchens, Victor Pasmore, and Ceri Richards. By the mid-1930s he was one of the leading British abstract artists, but by the end of the decade he had become disillusioned with non-representational art and reverted to naturalism. He concentrated on landscape and architectural views in an emotionally charged style that continued the English Romantic tradition (see Neo-Romanticism). Some of his finest works were done as an Official War Artist when he made pictures of bomb-damaged buildings. A similar stormy atmosphere pervades his famous views of country houses of the same period. Piper's work diversified in the 1950s and he became recognized as one of the most versatile British artists of his generation. He did much work as a designer of stage decor and of stained glass (notably at Coventry Cathedral) and was a prolific printmaker. In addition he made book illustrations and designed pottery and textiles. As a writer he is probably best known for his book British Romantic Artists (1942). He also compiled architectural guidebooks to several English counties, usually in collaboration with the poet John Betjeman. Two hundred and seven of his works are held in UK public collections.

Studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1926-9, winning the Fra Newbery Medal. From 1930-42 she worked in London and studied under the noted engraver Iain Macnab at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art. In 1942 she moved to St Andrews, Fife, and in 1946 joined her sister as part-time lecturer at Dundee College of Art. She retired in 1957 to care for her elderly mother but continued to paint. By then the sisters had established the printmaking department there. Showed RSA, RSW and NS both of which she was a member and SSWA and had two-man shows with her sister at Cork Street Gallery (London) and English Speaking Union Gallery, Edinburgh. McKenzie, who was especially influenced by the work of Braque, did railway posters and other ephemera, all marked with exquisite sense of design and apt colour. Seven examples of her work are held in UK public collections.

Note: Collector demand has never been higher for the work of John Bellany and numerous examples have been sold in recent months by both McTear's and others at ever more impressive prices. In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 29th May 2022 "The Finnon Smoker" by Bellany sold for £80,000 (hammer) and in the same sale, "Bass Rock Fable" (a 76 x 61cm unframed oil) sold for £12,000 (hammer). In our 21st August 2022 auction, lot 137 "The Newspaper Hat" (a 61 x 51cm oil) sold for £9500 (hammer). "Like-for-like" auction prices for original paintings are usually difficult to assess, but in The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of April 2023, two Bellany paintings which had been acquired in our auctions in September and November 2014 were consigned for sale by the same owner. The original 2014 selling prices were £1800 and £4000 and the same paintings sold in April for £3800 and £7000 (all hammer prices). He went on to be founder and Managing Director of a large successful graphic communications group serving industry in the UK, a career which spanned twenty five years. Ken has been painting full time now for 20 years. He lives in the iconic university town of St Andrews, Scotland, which is known globally as “the home of golf”. There are many opportunities for landscape painting in the inspirational county of Fife with its undulating hills, farmland, enormous colourful skies and the beautiful little coastal villages which often feature in his work. Lucy Mackay was educated in Switzerland, Cambridge and at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art, 1960–5, under David Talbot Rice and William Gillies, graduating with a master’s honours degree in fine art. In 1973–4 she completed a postgraduate illustration studies year at the Central School of Art and Design. She settled in Edinburgh where she studied advanced botanic illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden, and where as a member of the Scottish Arts Club from 1983 she regularly attended life studies. Mackay began her extensive teaching career in 1966 as art assistant at Edinburgh Academy for Boys; from 1968–76 taught art, design and pottery at schools in the London area; then again in Edinburgh at the Salisbury Centre, 1981–2. In 1999 she joined the register of Angus County’s artists-in-residence for primary schools, serving at several schools. After winning first prize in a portrait painting competition run by the magazine Nursery World, 1953, and exhibiting a prize painting in the Daily Mail competition to celebrate the opening of the Forth Road Bridge, 1964, Mackay took part in many group shows, including the RSA. Among later solo exhibitions were The Italian Institute, Edinburgh, 1991; Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, 1995, 1998 and 2005; and The Forum, Ocean Terminal, Leith, in aid of the Bethany Trust, 2004. She travelled extensively in several continents with paints and sketch-book. As well as a series of self-portraits Mackay completed many portraits, including Ronald Fletcher, broadcaster, 1968; the Queen’s Counsel Lionel Daiches, 1979–80; singer Ian Caddy, 1980–1; Professor David Daiches with his brother Lionel, 1988–9; the composer and conductor Emre Araci, 1997; and cellist Harriet Johnson, 2000. Her work was held by collections including the Scottish National Portrait Gallery; London College of Music; Royal Over-Seas League; Scottish Arts Club; Barlinnie Prison; and Geffrye Museum.

In 1980 she began a four year Degree course at Glasgow School of Art specialising in Drawing and Painting. After graduating she travelled and painted throughout Europe funded by an Elizabeth Greenshields Scholarship. In 1988 she became a gallery assistant in the Compass Gallery, Glasgow. Here, encouraged by Cyril and Jill Gerber, Lesley began to exhibit more of her artworks winning various prizes and awards, such as The 1991 Scottish Prize, Royal Overseas League London. This gave her the confidence to concentrate on painting full-time. In 1999 Lesley was appointed 'Artist in Residence' at Edinburgh Zoo where her popular ''Urban Zoo'' exhibition gained funding from the Scottish Arts Council. Since this time Lesley has exhibited throughout the U.K. and as far afield as Singapore and the USA. Works in public collections include Aberdeen Art Gallery, BBC Scotland, Motherwell District Libraries, Leicestershire Schools Collection, Lillie Art Gallery, Unilever, TSB Bank, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Perth Art Gallery and Museum.

* TOM MACKENZIE (SCOTTISH 1947 - 2018) NORTH UIST FROM SKYE limited edition. coloured etching on paper, signed, titled and numbered 5/25 mounted, framed and under glass image size 45cm x 60cm, overall size 67cm x 85cm Note: Tom MacKenzie was educated at Portree High School and at 17 left home to enrol at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in Dundee. This did not work out and after a year he went to London. His pursuit of art continued at evening classes in life drawing while working in a variety of jobs by day. In 1976 he moved back to Scotland, joining a team of many talents at the Glasgow Print Studio. John Taylor, a colleague and long-time friend, says: "Tom MacKenzie’s art was made from the Isle of Skye’s unique cornucopia of visual riches: the huge, notched and jagged coastline; sea lochs with many rocky islands; the Cuillins, the most awesome mountains in Britain." Living and working on the lovely Isle of Skye, Tom MacKenzie was renowned for his wonderful colour etchings of the island and the West Coast of Scotland. These large and very stylish etchings are appreciated and collected worldwide. Working from his studio and workshop in Portree, the island’s capital, Mackenzie used three steel plates to produce his etchings and limited the editions to 75 or less, printed on 300gm, Arches waterleaf paper. He was a very popular figure in Portree where he lived and worked and a much-respected artist throughout Scotland and far beyond. Small cracks to glass in both bottom corners

* CRAIG CAMPBELL THE CARLIN CAUGHT HER BY THE RUMP (TAM O'SHANTER) oil on board, signed framed image size 75cm x 100cm, overall size 92cm x 188cm Note: Campbell was born in Prestwick, Ayrshire, in 1960. This area of Scotland is abundant with golf courses so it's not surprising that much of his inspiration has come from the sport and its personalities. Craig studied at The Glasgow School of Art and his close attention to detail soon earned him prestigious exhibitions including a tour of the USA and a show at The British Open Championship. Recent years have seen him undertaking some of his most challenging work yet with large commissions for corporate clients such as Donald Trump and the new clubhouse at Trump Turnberry. This included several large paintings depicting the famous 1977 'Duel in the Sun'. He has many other clients including The European Tour, Amazon, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Westcot Credit Services, Dawn Group Ltd, Monsanto (USA), The Yorkshire Bank, Ayr Racecourse, JP Management, to name but a few. In 2005 Craig was commissioned by Barbara Nicklaus to paint a portrait of her husband Jack.. Later that year Jack met with Craig at Rufflets Country House Hotel, St. Andrews, during British Open week and signed and dated his new painting commemorating Jack's final Open. The original portrait was sold privately for £20,000 and the prints have raised in excess of $200,000 around the world for leading children and cancer charities. In 2015 Craig was also commissioned to paint a portrait of Tom Watson at his final British Open at St. Andrews.

* JAMES HARDIE (SCOTTISH 1938 - 2024), UNTITLED oil on board, signed framed image size 98cm x 120cm, overall size 106cm x 129cm Note: James Hardie was born in 1938. having studied at Glasgow School of Art in the 1950’s he won the Keith Award (1958), the Chalmers Bursary (1959), which enabled him to travel Holland and France, The Torrance Award (1968) and First Prize in Arbroath Art Festival (1971). He taught painting at Glasgow School of Art and Aberdeen College of Education, and lectured in art at Glasgow University and was the exchange tutor with the Chicago Institute of Art. Influenced by his love of flying and drawing on the landscapes of his native Firth of Clyde area, his manipulation of abstraction is much admired. He is widely collected and has had one man shows with the Compass Gallery in Glasgow, The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh and The Charles Jahn Gallery in Chicago amongst others. His works are held in numerous public collections including the Scottish Arts Council, Stirling, Strathclyde, Leicester, Liverpool and Stockholm Universities, and the Aberdeen City Art Gallery. His daughter, New York based Gwen Hardie, is the youngest artist ever to be awarded a solo show at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, Scotland (1990).

In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 29th May 2022 "The Finnon Smoker" by Bellany sold for £80,000 (hammer) and in the same sale, "Bass Rock Fable" (a 76 x 61cm unframed oil) sold for £12,000 (hammer). In our 21st August 2022 auction, lot 137 "The Newspaper Hat" (a 61 x 51cm oil) sold for £9500 (hammer). "Like-for-like" auction prices for original paintings are usually difficult to assess, but in The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of April 2023, two Bellany paintings which had been acquired in our auctions in September and November 2014 were consigned for sale by the same owner. The original 2014 selling prices were £1800 and £4000 and the same paintings sold in April for £3800 and £7000 (all hammer prices). This equates to a growth in value of 86.2% in fewer than nine years. In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 25th May 2023, lot 282, "Restless Wave" a 90 x 90cm oil (by Bellany) sold for £9000 (hammer) and in our auction of 9th November, lot 92, "Harbour" a 90 x 120cm oil by Bellany sold for £11000 (hammer). Most recently, "The Players" lot 50 in our auction of 28th March 2024 sold for £30000 (hammer) and on 1st August 2024 lot 95 "Self Portrait as a Dog, With Puffin" (a 170 x 155cm oil on canvas) sold for £15000 (hammer).

Note: Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born John Knox at Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire. He studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1953–7, where his teachers included William Armour and David Donaldson. In 1958 won a travelling scholarship which enabled him to study in Paris under André Lhote. Knox painted in a variety of styles, being influenced by the American Abstract Expressionists for a time, although on occasion creating still lifes in the manner of the Dutch Old Masters. From 1965–81 Knox taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, in 1981 becoming head of painting at Glasgow College of Art. Took part in many group shows in Scotland and abroad and had a series of one-man exhibitions, including 57 Gallery, Edinburgh; Serpentine Gallery in London; and Civic Arts Centre, Aberdeen. In 1983 a solo show was toured to a number of Scottish venues by the Scottish Arts Council; Drawings 1956–1998 was held by Cyril Gerber Fine Art and Compass Gallery, Glasgow, in 1998. Jack Knox has 42 examples of his work in UK public collections, including Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. Lived for some time in Carnoustie, Angus.

* GARRY BRANDER (SCOTTISH b. 1983), THE WATCH TOWER oil on board, signed, titled verso framed and under glass image size 58cm x 58cm, overall size 82cm x 82cm Note: Garry Brander began his studies in 2005 obtaining his HND in graphic design in 2007, winning several awards including the Trade House of Scotland ‘Best 2D Painting’. He began exhibiting his artwork in and around the west coast of Scotland and shortly after made the decision to attend the Glasgow School of Art. Graduating in 2011 with a BA Honours in Fine Art, he enjoyed a sell-out degree show. Garry spends much of his time painting the highlands and islands of Scotland, particularly the island of Tiree, where his family has lived and worked the old watermill and surrounding crofts for over 500 years. His love of the West Coast has inspired his paintings and living on the islands, learning about remoteness, isolation and the beauty of the beaches and landscapes, has forged the artist he has become. His upbeat and vibrant modern palette raises the viewer’s level of emotional engagement with his paintings and reminds them that Scotland is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Garry Brander’s contemporary artwork is in private collections all over the world and has been exhibited in Art Fairs from New York to London and Amsterdam. He also exhibits with many of Scotland’s best-known galleries and has had many successful solo exhibitions.

She is inspired by the familiar and the unfamiliar and her paintings cover everyday interiors and unusual figurative scenes to landscapes.
